1.Brief Introduction
Ethylcellulose (EC), taking natural cellulose as the main raw material, is organic-soluble cellulose ether produced by a series of chemical reactions, belonging to nonionic cellulose ethers.
Molecular formula:[C6H7O2(OC2H5)x(OH)3-x]n
In which:x——degree of substitution; n——degree of polymerization.
2. Main Physical-chemical Properties
The appearance of EC is white to slight yellow powder or granules without smell and taste. Its ignition point is 330~360℃. EC has small moisture absorption, good electrical properties and good stability to light, heat, oxygen, damp and chemicals. It is nonflammable and tolerant to strong base, diluted acid and brine solution. It can be soluble in organic solvents like alcohols, ethers, ketones, esters, arenes, halohydrocarbons, etc.
3. Main Applications
3.1 Industrial EC
EC can be widely used in various painting, such as metal surface coating, paper product painting, rubber coating, heat-melt coating, and coating for integrated circuit (IC), etc., used in inks like magnetic ink, gravure ink and aniline ink as cold-resistant material, used in special plastics and deposits, for instance coated tape for rocket propellant, used in insulation material and cable coating, used as polymer suspension polymerization dispersant, binder for hard alloy and ceramics, and used in textile Industry as printing paste.
3.2 EC for Medicine
Since it is insoluble in water, EC is mainly used as tablet binder and film coating material, etc. It is also used as retarder of framework material for preparing various types of matrix sustained-release tablets, used in hybrid material for preparing coating sustained-release preparation and piller, and used in vitamin and mineral tablets as binder, retarder and moisture proof agent.
4. Packing, Storage and Transportation
4.1 Packing:
EC product should be packed into edible polyethylene film inner-bag enclosed by composite paper-plastic outer-bag and fiberboard drum. Net weight is 10kg, 20kg and 25 kg per piece, respectively.
4.2 Storage and Transportation
EC product should be sealed and stored in dry place, and prohibited to store and transport with acidic chemicals. The Industrial product should not be stored and transported with oil and grease product and hazardous chemicals. The product for medicine should not be stored and transported with organic solvents and other substance with peculiar smell.
4.3 Product Shelf-life
From the production date on, the product’s preservation period should not exceed 2 years.
5. Product Types and Specifications
5.1 Main Specifications of Industrial EC are as follows.
Note:The viscosity range can be adjusted according to customers’ demands.
The specifications of EC for medicine should complay with 2005 edition of Chinese Pharmacopoeia. The main specifications are as follows:
